Fay Wells Obituary

Fay Windle Wells, aged 92, died peacefully in her home in Manchester, Tennessee, on March 12, 2024. She was born in Monroe, Tennessee, on November 15, 1931, to Alfred and Eliza Windle.
She attended Tennessee Technological Institute in Cookeville, Tennessee, where she met her husband, Charles B. Wells. She graduated with a degree in Education in 1953 and began her work as a home economics teacher at Rickman High School. She and Charles moved to Chilocothee, Ohio, and after a few years and the birth of their first child, moved to Manchester, Tennessee, to the home where they raised their family and lived for the rest of their lives. Fay spent the majority of her career as an assistant director at Skills Development Services, a non-profit agency serving persons with intellectual disabilities, a job from which she retired at age 83. Her greatest past-times were spending time with family and friends and playing bridge. She lived life to the fullest and memorably celebrated her 90th birthday by jumping out of an airplane with her children and some of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Steve Wells, David (Rene) Wells, Beth (Hugo) Welch, and Amy Wells Duckett; eleven grandchildren, John David (Amber) Wells, Zachary (Hannah) Wells, William (Taylor) Duckett, Elizabeth Wells, Jack Duckett, Matt Wells, Isabella Welch, Gabrielle Welch, Annabelle Duckett, Oliver Welch, and Eliza Welch; three great grandchildren, Charlie and Alex Wells, and Cooper Duckett; her sister-in-law, Faye (Eugene) Wells, and her many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Wells, six siblings, Harris (Avis) Windle, Bill (Eloise) Windle, Charles Windle, Betty (Scot) Stickley, Sue (Bill) Stogner, and Jack (Joyce) Windle, and one granddaughter, Suzanna Duckett.
Please join us in celebrating her life at a graveside service at Lovelady Sims Cemetery, 1117 Jones Chapel Road, Byrdstown, Tennessee, on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception at 1455 Hassler Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
