Edna Foster Obituary

Edna Ruth Foster peacefully went home to the Lord on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the grand age of 90. She was born September 13, 1933 in Manchester, Tennessee. Ms. Foster graduated from Coffee County Central High School in 1951. She never married but following her senior trip with friends, she immediately went into the workforce. In her early years, she was employed at Lock’s 5 & Dime, Mr. Redd’s Department Store then Mr. Redd’s Fabric Store, which later became Mae’s Fabric store on the square and decades later she was employed at Spring Street Market and Crestwood Nursing Home before retiring.

Ms. Foster lived a simple, long and fulfilling life. She enjoyed the comforts of her conservative lifestyle and was never materialistic. She, more than anything, enjoyed spending time with her only brother, Orville, and his family whom she lived with for many, many years and treated as her own. She loved her family and always praised them to the public. She enjoyed walking up and down the street, walking the family dog “Mr. French” until his passing, watching television (Columbo & Matlock two of many favorites), listening to music & sewing. She was just simple. She loved bubble gum, candies & Dr. Pepper. One of her most known talents was “crocheting.” Over the years she made hundreds of Afghans to give away to her friends and special people throughout this community. Next to that was her passion for making our favorite desserts. They were so special we dedicated a homemade cookbook to remember and preserve them all. Through the years Edna enjoyed a small group of lady companions which she often spent time talking on the phone or going out for lunch. Although she outlived most of them, those times were very precious to her as we have heard thousands of stories through the years. Most importantly she loved journalling. She journalled her life and family events for over 30 years. These books are the most treasured and will hold a very special place in our hearts as if they had won a Pulitzer Prize.

Ms. Foster was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Frank and Louise Foster and a nephew-in-law, Kenny Swack. She is survived by her only brother, Orville Foster (Dorothy), nephew Gavin Foster (Tina), niece Charity Swack, niece Annette Foster & several great nieces and nephews: Ryan Swack (Jennifer), Maverick Calorio (Andrew), Tori Wildes (Caylan), Dylan Beets (Baileigh), Ragan Young (Josh), Brooke Harmon (Josh), Raven Pritchard (Dustan), Dustin Beets & Rylee Swack. Great-great nieces and nephews: Braxton, Avery, Abigail, Branson, John Waylon, Charley & Emi Lou.

As simple as Ms. Foster was, so will be her service at her request. Visitation will be held at Manchester Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 2 p.m. The service will be officiated by special family member, Greg Keeling. Burial will be at Hickerson Cemetery on Powers Bridge Road immediately following the service.
